This Look Never Goes Out Of Style! By Hair Salon Bowral Call Us On 02 4861 1120

Wear it long or wear it short, the tousled, textured wavy hairstyle (also called beachy waves) has stood the test of time.

Julia Roberts wears it with her trademark long hair. But this style looks just as sexy with short hair. And it’s an easy one to create. You can use a big barrel curling iron to create soft, bouncy waves.

Or for shorter hair, use a thinner barrel. Add hair spray, tousle it and go!

6 Luster Busters That Flatten Hair Shine

6 Luster Busters That Flatten Hair Shine

6 Luster Busters That Flatten Hair Shine By Hair Salon Bowral Call Us On 02 4861 1120

If you’re frustrated because you’re doing everything humanly possible to make those locks shiny and healthy, but all you see is dull and dingy, then listen up.

We’ve got 6 very likely reasons for those luster busters.

  • Your showerhead-Sediment from your showerhead collects mineral deposits and rust from your house pipes, dulling your hair. The solution is use Keune shampoo to clarify those locks monthly.
  •

  • Careless Conditioning-There’s not much point in applying conditioner and then immediately rinsing it out. The proteins and lipids need time to penetrate the hair shaft, softening and smoothing your hair.
  •

  • Soggy Styling-If you see steam coming off of your hair while you’re styling, then you’re scorching your hair. Stop! Stop! Stop! No good can come from this. EVER.
  •

  • Sun Exposure-Sun is a definite luster buster! It only takes 100 hours of direct sunlight to inflict the same amount of damage as bleaching your hair for 30 minutes. Apply a salon quality SPF Spray.
  •

  • Shine Spray OD-We love shine spray, but too much of a good thing is…too much! Overdoing it will rob your hair of hydration and shine. Ease up!
  •

  • Tepid Styling Tools-This one’s tricky. You don’t want to go too much in either direction. Low settings don’t allow you to get the job done in one pass, damaging your hair. Find the right setting and stick to it!

How To Make Curly Hair Behave

How To Make Curly Hair Behave

How To Make Curly Hair Behave By Hair Salon Bowral Call Us On 02 4861 1120

Do you wake up in the morning wondering if you and your hair will duke it out?

Many curly girls feel the same way, and it’s completely understandable. You have the most envied hair type…and the most difficult.

To make matters worse most curly hair girls don’t understand how different their hair type really is! They just know it’s tough to work with.

So let’s set the record straight.

Curly hair is drier than any other hair type. It also has the most diverse hair texture because it can appear in so many different forms, like wavy, medium or tight coils.

That’s why there are two non-negotiable, absolutely, positively essential “gotta haves” with curly hair.

The first is an experienced stylist with advanced training! Curly hair, with all its twists, turns and curves, is a very tricky hair type to work with. Without considerable expertise your haircut can mean tears and frustration.

We love curly hair so much we took advanced classes on how to properly cut and care for it!

Hand in hand with an experienced stylist, every curly girl needs the right products for her specific hair texture. We do not recommend over-the-counter products because they are made with large molecules.

That means they sit on your hair cuticle; they don’t penetrate it. Needless to say, their effectiveness is mediocre. With Keune, the molecules are considerably smaller, penetrating the cuticle, and actually working with your hair to improve and enhance it. You really do get what you pay for!

Use your stylist as a resource and an ally because she is! She can show you how to give your curls the delicate attention they need for beautiful, bouncy, lovable hair.

    No more misbehavin’!

Curvy women, rejoice! Here are 4 essential tips to keep eyes focused on your slimming hairstyle and beautiful curves.

  • Hair should skim your shoulders. A cut that is shoulder length or slightly longer creates the illusion of a longer, leaner face. If your face is already full, a shorter cut will simply add more width.
  •

  • Layer it. Layered cuts are ideal for plus size shapes. They help to minimise a double chin and give more definition to your shoulder area. If your hair is fine, layers will give you a body boost. Just don’t get layers shorter than chin length. Remember, that will add width.
  •

  • Side part your hair. Sweeping face-framing pieces diagonally over your face breaks up a round face. It also brings out your cheekbones.
  •

  • Get gorgeous colour. It’s certainly not required, but if you’re noticing grey strands, now is the perfect time for a colour lift. A natural shade most flattering to your skin tone is best, unless you want some real sass. Then choose two shades in either direction of your natural colour.

Got questions? We’d love to help. Just ask!

How To Get Through A Bad Hair Day

How To Get Through A Bad Hair Day

How To Get Through A Bad Hair Day By Hair Salon Bowral Call Us On 02 4861 1120

What luck! When a bad hair day strikes, you have the power to actually make it look chic!

    Here’s how:

Headbands: They’re back in style with a vengeance! That means whether your hair is long, short, or somewhere in between, it’s an easy solution for a very temporary problem. Get a stash of jewel-encrusted, glittery or other unusual hairbands and let them do the talking on bad hair days.

Messy Or Half Updo: If your hair is medium to long, go for a messy updo or half updo. The point is to make lemons from lemonade! If you think your hair is a mess, take it to the max and make it chic. No one will ever know.

Flyaway Hair: Don’t brush it! That will only make it worse. Apply pomade and keep dryer sheets handy throughout the day to smooth unruly hair.

We all move a bit too fast, take short cuts and then curse our rotten luck when we wake up to a bad hair day. This too shall pass. But at least now, bad hair days can have real style!

How To Care For Damaged Hair

How To Care For Damaged Hair

How To Care For Damaged Hair By Hair Salon Bowral Call Us On 02 4861 1120

It happens to all of us at one time or another. Too much “daily abuse” with curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers can cause hair to become damaged, not to mention trips to the beach, cold winter weather and rough treatment…the list is practically endless!

That’s why we’ve put together a primer for managing damaged hair until you have healthier hair days ahead:

Shampoo – Once hair is damaged, it can’t be repaired, but you can make it appear healthier.  In the interim, choose a shampoo that is gentle and is designed to treat damaged hair.

Because shampooing can make your hair drier, shampoo once or twice a week at most. Your stylist will need to do monthly trims to remove the damage.

Conditioner – Use a light leave-in conditioner to help minimise the unattractive appearance of dry hair. Also, deep condition once a week.

Style –Talk to your stylist about a haircut that can minimise the appearance of the damage while you’re growing healthier locks. Steer clear of colouring, perms, and relaxers during this time.

If the damage is severe, you might want to consider a short cut. Once the damage grows out, you can grow healthier, longer hair.

Don’t Make It Worse! Please, please! Do not make matters worse by trying to solve the problem yourself.  We love do-it-yourself projects, just not with your hair.

Believe us when we say that we’ve seen all kinds of damage through the years. Don’t go there!

We can give you excellent products and treatments to get you and your hair on the road to bouncy, shiny, healthy hair in no time!

How To Look Youthful And Vibrant

Want to look younger and more vibrant? Of course! Good skin care, as well as skin care treatments, is half of the equation for exuding good health.

The other half? Your hair. Mother Nature did not create hair colour that is monochromatic, or just one colour. She meant for your hair to have depth and richness.

That’s the real beauty of hair. But as we age, hair becomes more monochromatic. That’s why highlights, lowlights, or both, are a wonderful addition to your anti-aging regimen.

Highlights, which are selected strands of hair that are lighter than your hair colour, are just like your hairstyle—very individual.

The current trend is for soft, subtle colour with less contrast. But rules and trends were meant to be broken! If you like high contrast highlights, go for it! The key is to bring in a picture of just what you want.

Lowlights are selected strands of hair that are painted a shade deeper than your hair colour. Both highlights and lowlights can be used together to enhance certain sections of your hair.

And that’s the fun of it! You and your stylist can discuss the look you want and how to get it. Sun streaks? Chunks?  Painted?

Tell us your pleasure. We know you’ll walk out of the salon with just what you want.

The fringe requires a little care to get the look you want.  Here are three quick tips:

  • Comb your fringe in the direction you want them to lay while they are wet.
  •

  • If you’re working against the natural texture of your hair, use a product with hold.
  •

  • Air drying your fringe ? Fight frizz with a water-based serum or finishing creme.
  •
